George Cotterell
George joined Downing in 2026 and brings over 18 years of experience of real estate lending and investment transactions. Prior to joining the firm, he was a Managing Director and co-owner of ESR Europe's real estate debt business, leading investment origination and overseeing portfolio management activities. He previously served as a Managing Director at Venn Partners.
Over the course of his career, George has played a key role in more than £4 billion of commercial real estate lending across the UK and Western Europe, encompassing origination, underwriting and investment management and advisory. His expertise spans a broad range of real estate sectors and capital structures, including senior debt, whole loans, mezzanine finance and joint venture equity.
George holds a Master's degree in Finance from London Business School and a degree from the University of Edinburgh. He is a qualified solicitor and began his career at leading law firm Macfarlanes LLP
