Downing’s Energy & Infrastructure business has further strengthened its asset management and investment capabilities with the appointment of Carsten Johansen as Partner, and Tom Harada as Head of UK Investments, Energy & Infrastructure.
The appointments support growing institutional investor demand for Downing’s renewables investment expertise as the clean energy transition continues to accelerate. They also deepen the firm’s fully integrated Energy & Infrastructure platform, which combines renewable energy development, investment and in-house asset management expertise across the full infrastructure lifecycle.
Carsten joins Downing from Impax Asset Management and brings 20 years’ experience across energy and infrastructure, having completed more than €2bn of transactions across Europe and Latin America. He previously worked for GE Energy Financial Services. Tom joins from Temporis Capital where he was Principal Co-lead of the Infrastructure Investment team and brings 14 years’ experience in the sector, having deployed more than £600m of capital across more than 50 utility-scale energy transactions, with previous roles at Lightsource BP and AGR Power.
Tom Williams, Head of Energy & Infrastructure at Downing, said: “We are seeing increasing demand from institutional investors seeking experienced partners with the sector expertise and operational capability to identify, develop, construct and manage renewable energy infrastructure assets. Carsten and Tom bring deep investment, transaction and asset management experience that will further strengthen our team and enhance our ability to deliver long-term value for investors across the clean energy transition.”
Kostas Manolis, Partner and Head of Private Market Investments, added: "The energy system is undergoing profound change as electrification, energy security and decarbonisation drive investment across generation, storage and grid infrastructure. Success in this market increasingly depends on having deep expertise throughout the asset lifecycle. Carsten and Tom bring valuable experience that will enhance our capabilities and support the next phase of growth of our Energy & Infrastructure platform."
Downing’s Energy & Infrastructure strategy focuses on investing in the clean energy transition, with a platform designed to deliver value across the infrastructure lifecycle. The team’s capabilities span development, construction and operations, and the energy generation, storage, grid and grid services sectors across Northern Europe.
